LOCUST4EVER

The only remaining locust were him and his comrade. They were separated by a distance of two hundred and twenty yards but they kept in contact through the intercom.

-“They’re getting closer”, his comrade whispered.  “I’m going out”.
-“¡No!” he replied. “Come back…”

There was no answer; he imagined the slaughter of his comrade while he was hearing the gunshots and screams.
Minutes later he heard human voices and what it seemed to be the footsteps of a whole battalion, but there were only three men in this reconnaissance mission.

He took a look, avoiding being seen. A sniper at one hundred yards covering his partners, the remaining three, grouped, were at fifty yards from him.

The blue sky had turned grey due to the smoke coming from the explosions, which had occurred in the last few days, and he had been present in almost every confrontation and he had made it just fine, but he couldn’t care less. The only relevant thing was to satisfy the empress, because if she felt pleased, the species would perpetuate.

He knew this could be his last battle, and if it was, he would go down fighting. His back was against a column reduced to rubble, his worn out leather overcoat was flowing in wind. He was awaiting the precise moment to attack. When the humans were at ten yards from him, he would load his shotgun, put his claw in the trigger, and run towards the closest target expecting to tear it into pieces with the first shot; then he would figure out the way to get rid of the remaining two, but that is if the sniper had not smashed his head with a bullet already or left him laying down on the ground. A war growl came from his throat.
